New Space Age Design exhibition at the Philips Museum

The Philips Museum is going back to the sixties and seventies with a temporary exhibition about design at the height of the space age. A range of Philips products, posters and models will give visitors a unique impression of this period. The exhibition will also show how the space age has influenced current trends.

Space Age

The Space Age began with the launch of the Sputnik in 1957. This was a period of unprecedented prosperity and ground-breaking change, of optimism, belief in the future and an almost unconditional trust in science and technology. The optimism of the space age had a huge impact on design, architecture, fashion, film, music and technology in the 1960s and 1970s, including at Philips. This was apparent in products, advertising and buildings, such as the Evoluon from 1966.

We walked with Serge and Mark. They can tell you everything at the museum, but signs also tell everything in English.

In the ‘Space Age Design’ exhibition all kinds of space-like Philips products, photographs and prototypes from the 1960s and 1970s will be on display, as well as a unique scale model of the Evoluon. The Space Age and the associated ideas from the 1960s and 1970s have also influenced later and current Philips designs and communications. There will also be a number of examples of these on show in the design exhibition.

125 years of Philips
2016 marks the 125th anniversary of Philips, a milestone that is being celebrated. Over the past 125 years Philips has transformed unexpected opportunities into meaningful innovations. It is from this history that Philips draws its inspiration for the future.
