Liverpool: de Beatles achterna! (in taxi met Blue Badge Guide)

Na de leuke Beatles-ervaringen in Londen (zie aldaar en wandel met ons mee met Richard Porter) is het een must om ook naar Liverpool te gaan. De stad van de Beatles maar ook een cultuurstad. Liverpool was in 2008 Culturele Hoofdstad van Europa. Dat is nog steeds te merken. Ook het winkelaanbod is aanzienlijk verbeterd en verruimd. Er is zelfs een Jamie’s Italian Restaurant.

We verkenden de stad en begonnen in de Casbah Club, waar we spraken met Rory Best, de broer van Pete die ooit deel uitmaakte van de BIG FOUR. Hier begon het allemaal onder toeziend oog van ma Best. Daarna maken we met Sylvia een taxi-tour door de stad en bezoeken de huizen (voor zover die zijn opengesteld) van de Beatles. Er is een 5 tal audiofiles inclusief muziek van elk ongeveer een half uur, verlucht met een aantal foto’s. Daarna gaan we met gids Phil Coppel door de stad en bezoeken natuurlijk ook de Cavern Club, de Beatles Story en het A hard days night Hotel…

We hebben deze stadstaxirit met Sylvia enorm gewaardeerd en behalve veel Beatles- ook stadsinformatie gehoord en gezien. En natuurlijk is het heerlijk om alleen door de stad te struinen. Maar met een gids, met een bustour of met de Yellow Sub Tour kom je ook op veel plekken.

De beide Beatleshuizen zijn eigendom van The National Trust en zijn met een aparte bus te bezichtigen.De VVV van Liverpool heeft en geeft graag alle info.

Located within the Pier Head Ferry Terminal building you’ll find the second site of The Beatles Story. The Beatles Story Pier Head features the Elvis and Us and Hidden Gallery exhibitions and Fab4D Experience.

Elvis and Us

Beatles Story and Elvis Presley Enterprises, Inc. have joined forces to create a transatlantic partnership to open this new exhibition. It represents the first time the two cornerstones of 20th Century popular culture have come together since they met in 1965 at Elvis’s Bel Air home. The exhibition includes rare and exclusive artefacts from both the Beatles Story and Graceland archives, many of which have never before been exhibited publicly. The exhibition opened in October 2011, and runs for two years.

 

 

 

Fab4D Experience

This is an innovative and exciting experience for all the family. Take your seat in this new state-of-the-art Fab4D Experience theatre, where you will be taken on an adventure with plenty of laughs along the way.

Hidden Gallery

This is a new exhibition of images of The Beatles, discovered by the photographer in his attic after almost 50 years. The 38 black and white images were taken between 1963 and 1964 by photographer Paul Berriff. The shots show John, Paul, Ringo and George in unguarded moments, rehearsing on stage and relaxing in their dressing room.

Albert Dock

Albert Dock can be found on the Liverpool’s famous waterfront, which is part of Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage Site. The magnificent Albert Dock, a former 19th Century dock now converted to one of Britain’s top heritage attractions, is the UK’s largest group of Grade I listed buildings. Albert Dock was officially opened in 1988 with a restoration figure of £25million.

Historic Albert Dock is home to many attractions including the Merseyside Maritime Museum, International Slavery Museum, Tate Liverpool, Beatles Story, Yellow Boat Cruises, Yellow Duckmarine and the Echo Wheel of Liverpool.

Liverpool’s world famous Cavern Club invites visitors along to experience live music from 3.30pm daily. In February 2011, The Cavern celebrated the 50th Anniversary since The Beatles made their first appearance on 9th February, 1961.
